The KLF timeline

Jimmy Cauty and Bill Drummond meet. Bill Drummond produces Jimmy, June Montana and Youth in the group Brilliant. Brilliant is supposed to be as big as Jason Donovan, Kylie Minogue and Rick Astley - combined.

Brilliant hires mega-producers Stock-Aitken-Waterman for their singles. The record company doesn't know this and the bill lands at some million pound. The record company is not happy and fires Jimmy and Bill. They try to release an album of their own but it's hard.

The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu is formed by Bill and Jimmy. The album "1987:What the fuck is going on" is released. The album features samples by Whitney Houston, Samantha Fox and Abba. Abbas record company Polar gets so upset by the sample of "Dancing queen" that they sue JAMS. The album is withdrawn. Jimmy and Bill gets upset and drive their Ford Timelord to Stockholm. They arrive at 4 AM to talk to people at Polar. Needless to say, no one is there. The journey continues to the south of Sweden their they throw out a lot of the records and burn them close to a farmers field. Legend has it the farmer comes out, in a very angry mood and starts shooting at Bill and Jimmy. They take the remaining albums and head back to London. "!987: The edits" is released which is the same album as "1987: What the fuck is going on" but with all samples removed. However, their are instructions in the booklet how to re-create the original album by buying the sampled records.

"Who killed the JAMS?" released. First single as The KLF appear - "Burn the bastards".  Jimmy and Bill use another band name - The Timelords. They announce that their single will reach number one in the UK. No one believes them. "Doctor in the Tardis" is released by The Timelords and reaches number one were it stays for 3 weeks. Everyone is waiting for the album. There never is one, nor anymore songs. The KLF releases "What time is love?" for the first time. It's a big hit in clubs. "The manual" hits stores; a book on how to get a number one. The book has been succesfully used a number of times, or so legend has it.

"3:am eternal" by the KLF lands at record store. Big club hit. A song about the Brilliant days is also released - "Kylie said to Jason". Filming of "The White room starts". Two thirds of the film is completed but it never gets released. The soundtrack is recorded, never released. "The what time is love story" is released with covers of the club hit.

"Chill out" is released. The album is created by going out in the country with a cassette recorder and sampling cows, sheep and trains. Bill Drummond releases a solo album called "Space". The album first has work by Alex Paterson but that music is later removed. "What time is love?" is released again with new mixes. Big club hit again. The short film "Waiting" is released. "The JAMS" releases "It's grim up north" in 250 copies. Huge club hit and everyone wants more copies. "3:am eternal is released again, with new mixes.

The album "The white room" is released. Huge hit. Is at top 20 in Sweden for several years. The album features "What time is love?" and "3 AM eternal" and album versions of "Last train to Trancentral" and "Justified and ancient". "Last train to Trancentral" released as single, remixed. "The stadium horse trilogy" with 3 music videos released. "America: What time is love?" released with Glenn Hughes on vocals. "It's grim up north" is finally re-released in larger numbers. Big club hit again. "Justified and ancient (Stand by the JAMS)" released featuring Tammy Wynette on vocals.

The KLF appears with Extreme Noise Terror at "The Brits" performing a heavy metal version of "3:am eternal". Jimmy can't keep up with the fast version and breaks up in laughter sometimes. The KLF is accused of placing a fried sheep at entrance. Jimmy performs with crutch. In the end, he points it as a weapon and gunshots are heard. Audience panic. It's only fake gunshots and The KLF win "best live act" together with Simply Red. "The rites of Mu" released on video. The KLF quits the music industry (sort of), making a last entry as "One world orchestra" and the song "K. cera cera".

The KLF returns as "2K" and releases "Fuck the millenium". Big hit and televised event.

And that, is the story... No more tracks since 1997. A few remixes, but that's all. For now...
